Pneumatic transmission A pneumatic actuator that converts the pressure energy of a compressed gas into mechanical energy and produces rotational motion. The commonly used pneumatic motor is the positive displacement air motor, which uses the volume change of the working chamber to do work, and the types of blade, piston and gear type are divided. [1]
Air motor is a device that converts the pressure energy of compressed air into rotating mechanical energy. Its role is equivalent to that of an electric motor or hydraulic motor, that is, output torque to drive the mechanism for rotational motion.
The main differences between air motors and electric motors (or motors) are:
1. Small size can produce high power.
2. High adaptability, small temperature rise, speed can be changed with the load, until the overload shutdown without any damage to the air motor, so the selection can consider using a lower safety factor.
3. Quick start, quick stop, especially suitable for frequent start occasions, and the commutation is very easy.
4. Simple stepless speed regulation, from zero to maximum, flexible operation.
5. Large starting torque, can start with load.
6. Simple structure, air motor service life is particularly long.
7. It is not affected by the external environment, even in harsh environments such as water, dust, humidity, and dirt, because the internal pressure is greater than the external pressure when the air motor is running.
8. Safe, explosion-proof, air motor does not produce sparks, overheating, explosion, short circuit (electricity) and other risk factors, especially suitable for flammable and explosive substances or high temperature environment, such as solvents, paints, chemicals, etc.
The above points are the main advantages of air motors over electric motors, and they are also the reasons why they are used in many industrial fields. The disadvantages of air motor are: small output power, large air consumption, low efficiency, loud noise, and easy to produce vibration.
